After hitting a fresh intraday low in early afternoon trade, key benchmark indices pared loses in afternoon trade. At 13:44 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 24.93 points or 0.09% at 26,818.10. The Nifty 50 index was currently down 5.85 points or 0.07% at 8,214.95.
Closer home, the market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was negative. On BSE, 1,284 shares fell and 1,191 shares rose. A total of 135 shares were unchanged. The BSE Mid-Cap index was currently up 0.11%. The BSE Small-Cap index was currently up 0.31%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
State Bank of India (up 1.78%), GAIL (India) (up 1.51%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (up 1.43%), edged higher from the Senex pack.
Maruti Suzuki India (down 1.68%), Bharti Airtel (down 1.48%) and Axis Bank (down 1.46%), edged lower from the Sensex pack.
