Metal stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE Metal index rising 195.59 points or 2.17% at 9201.15 at 09:47 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Tata Steel Ltd (up 3.94%), Vedanta Ltd (up 3.11%),NMDC Ltd (up 3.03%),JSW Steel Ltd (up 2.8%),Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (up 2.56%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 2.42%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 1.16%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 0.99%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (up 0.92%), and Coal India Ltd (up 0.42%).
At 09:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 121.7 or 0.31% at 39371.9.
The Nifty 50 index was up 24.5 points or 0.21% at 11651.65.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 16.51 points or 0.12% at 13326.81.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 7.67 points or 0.17% at 4555.49.
On BSE,767 shares were trading in green, 640 were trading in red and 85 were unchanged.
