Nine metal shares fell by 0.84% to 2.43% at 09:43 IST on BSE after LMEX, a gauge of six metals traded on the London Metal Exchange, slipped 1.35% on Thursday, 2 August 2012.
Sterlite Industries India (down 2.43%), Sail (down 2.25%), Tata Steel (down 2.24%), Hindalco Industries (down 2.01%), Sesa Goa (down 1.95%), JSW Steel (down 1.74%), Jindal Steel & Power (down 1.65%), Nalco (down 1.12%) and Hindustan Zinc (down 0.84%), and edged lower.
The BSE Metal index was down 1.82% at 10,184.14 and was the top loser among the 13 sectoral indices on the BSE. It underperformed the Sensex, which was down 0.83% at 17,080.60
The BSE Metal index underperformed the market over the past one month till 2 August 2012, falling 4.41% compared with the Sensex's 1% fall. The index had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, sliding 5.93% as against Sensex's 0.45% decline.
