Six metal stocks rose by 1.14% to 2.42% at 9:30 IST on BSE as LMEX, a gauge of six metals traded on the London Metal Exchange gained 1.64% on Friday, 3 August 2012.
Tata Steel (up 2.42%), Sail (up 2.06%), Sterlite Industries (up 1.42%), Hindalco Industries (up 1.33%), Sesa Goa (up 1.3%) and Jindal Steel & Power (up 1.14%), edged higher.
The BSE Metal index was up 1.19% at 10,323.54. It outperformed the Sensex, which was up 0.94% at 17,359.38.
The BSE Metal index had underperformed the market over the past one month until 3 August 2012, falling 6.70% compared with the Sensex's 1.31% fall. The index had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, falling 5.83% as against 0.27% rise in the Sensex.
