Metal stocks were trading in green, with the S&P BSE Metal index increasing 194.46 points or 2.32% at 8585.91 at 09:49 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 4.81%), Coal India Ltd (up 4.2%),Tata Steel Ltd (up 2.59%),Vedanta Ltd (up 2.52%),JSW Steel Ltd (up 2.1%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Hindustan Zinc Ltd (up 1.61%), NMDC Ltd (up 1.51%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 1.43%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (up 1.42%), and Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 1.09%).
At 09:49 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 61.62 or 0.17% at 36786.36.
The Nifty 50 index was up 31.2 points or 0.29% at 10875.85.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 48.67 points or 0.39% at 12454.59.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 7.5 points or 0.18% at 4200.09.
On BSE,851 shares were trading in green, 379 were trading in red and 53 were unchanged.
