Jindal Steel & Power (up 2.61%), NMDC (up 2.47%), Nalco (up 2.38%), Hindalco Industries (up 2.20%), JSW Steel (up 1.78%), Sesa Goa (up 1.72%), Hindustan Zinc (up 1.67%), Sterlite Industries (India) (up 1.62%), Tata Steel (up 1.47%), Sail (up 0.41%) and Bhushan Steel (up 0.03%), edged higher.
The S&P BSE Metal index was up 1.36% at 7,703.90. It outperformed the BSE Sensex, which was up 0.94% at 19,593.21.
The S&P BSE Metal index had underperformed the market over the past one month till 4 July 2013, sliding 10.59% compared with the Sensex's 0.69% fall. The index had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, falling 10.50% as against Sensex's 4.87% rise.
