Key benchmark indices held firm and moved within a tight range in afternoon trade. At 13:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 109.98 points or 0.33% at 33,267.20. The Nifty 50 index was up 40.10 points or 0.39% at 10,363.15.
Renewed buying was witnessed on the bourses today, 30 October 2017. Market edged higher in early trade tracking record close for US stocks. Indices extended gains and hit fresh record high in morning trade. Stocks held firm in rangebound trade later during the session.
Among secondary barometers, the BSE Mid-Cap index was up 1.23%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 1.3%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
The broad market depicted strength. There were two gainers against every loser on BSE. 1,735 shares rose and 859 shares fell. A total of 149 shares were unchanged.
Hindalco Industries rose 1.22% after report suggested that the company increased price of aluminium products. After it hiked the price mid-last week, the company increased the price again by 1% on Saturday, 28 October 2017.
HCL Technologies declined 1.27%. The company announced a collaboration with red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source solutions, to offer HCL Application Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) services to enterprise customers globally. The announcement was made during market hours today, 30 October 2017.
Capital goods stocks gained for the fifth straight day. Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) (up 0.95%), Havells India (up 1.98%), ABB India (up 0.7%), Bharat Electronics (up 0.95%), L&T (up 1.08%), Thermax (up 0.34%), and CG Power & Industries (up 0.98%) gained.

Realty stocks rose on renewed buying. DLF (up 1.95%), D B Realty (up 1.79%), Sobha (up 0.64%), Indiabulls Real Estate (up 3.74%), Unitech (up 2.54%), NBCC (up 2.27%), Godrej Properties (up 1.48%), Housing Development & Infrastructure (HDIL) (up 4.41%), and Oberoi Realty (up 1.49%) edged higher.
Overseas, Asian stocks were trading on a mixed note as investors awaited an announcement on who will helm the US Federal Reserve.
In the US, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed at records on Friday, 27 October 2017, fueled by large gains in technology shares following better-than-expected quarterly results from heavyweights Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp., Alphabet Inc. and Intel Corp.
Equities were also buoyed by data showing the US economy expanded at a solid 3% annual pace for a second straight quarter despite damages from two hurricanes, while the University of Michigan reported consumer sentiment in October was the strongest it has seen in 13 years. The S&P 500 gained 0.8%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite Index meanwhile, advanced 2.2%.
According to reports, US President Donald Trump will interview Janet Yellen Thursday, 2 November 2017, about potentially staying on as chair of the Federal Reserve after her first term ends in February. Yellen was appointed to the fed by former President Barack Obama in 2014. She is the first female head of the institution, which sets the country's monetary policy and regulates its major banks.
