Turnover spurts in F&O segment due to expiry of weekly index options.
The Nifty April 2020 futures were at 9,073.50 a discount of 38.40 points compared with the spot closing at 9,111.90.Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment was Rs 17.88 lakh crore compared with Rs 11.62 lakh crore reported in the previous session.
In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index jumped 363.15 points or 4.15% at 9111.90.
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, slumped 5.12% to 49.5650.
On the options front, the Nifty option chain for 30 April 2020 expiry showed maximum call open interest (OI) of 16.96 lakh at the 10,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 25.94 lakh contracts was seen at 8,000 strike price.
Reliance Industries (RIL), ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in F&O segment of NSE. RIL April 2020 futures were at 1,217.50, compared with spot closing price of 1217.75. ICICI Bank April 2020 futures were at 341.10 compared with spot closing price of 342. HDFC Bank April 2020 futures were at 912.25, compared with spot closing price of 922.10.
