Turnover spurted in the F&O segment due to expiry of weekly index options.
The Nifty March 2021 futures were at 15,108, a premium of 27.25 points compared with Nifty's spot closing of 15,080.75.Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment was Rs 95.47 lakh crore compared with Rs 43.73 lakh crore in the previous session.
In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index tumbled 164.85 points or 1.08% to 15,080.75.
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, surged 9.32% to 24.15.
RIL, Infosys and ICICI Bank were the top traded stock futures contracts in F&O segment for March expiry.
The March F&O contracts will expire on 25 March 2021.
