Nifty May futures trade at premium

Turnover spurts in F&O segment on account of weekly options expiry.

The Nifty May 2020 futures were at 9,153.35, a premium of 10.6 points compared with the spot closing at 9,142.75.

Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment was at Rs 23.82 lakh crore compared with Rs 11.80 lakh crore in the previous session.

In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index lost 250.8 points or 2.57% and closed at 9,142.75.

The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, fell 1.54% to 38.2350.

On the options front, the Nifty option chain for 28 May 2020 expiry showed maximum call open interest (OI) of 22.50 lakh at the 10,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 24.84 lakh contracts was seen at 9,000 strike price.

 

Reliance Industries (RIL), Bajaj Finance and HUL were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in F&O segment of NSE. RIL May 2020 futures were at 1,442.30, compared with spot closing price of 1436.60. Bajaj Finance May 2020 futures were at 2,112.95 compared with spot closing price of 2113. HUL May 2020 futures were at 2,010, compared with spot closing price of 2003.05.

The F&O contracts for May will expire on 28 May 2020.
