NLC India surged 6.41% to Rs 73 at 09:51 IST on BSE after the company scheduled a board meeting on 9 October 2018 to consider buyback of equity shares.
The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 3 October 2018.Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 567.91 points, or 1.58% at 35,407.72
On the BSE, 57,000 shares were traded on the counter so far as against the average daily volumes of 40,000 shares in the past two weeks. The stock had hit a high of Rs 73.80 and a low of Rs 71 so far during the day.
NLC India (earlier known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation) operates lignite mines, pithead thermal power stations and also has operations in renewable energy sector.
