Poor planting of pulses and coarse cereals has pulled down total rabi sown area by 20% compared to the corresponding week in the 2017-18 season, according to latest data released by the Agriculture Ministry. The total rabi acreage so far stands at 110.71 lakh hectares (lha) against 138 lha at the same time last year. The sowing of wheat has begun on a strong note with acreage registering a 20% increase at 15.19 lha. The pulses acreage stood at 39 lha compared to 54.34 lha in the corresponding period last season- down 28.13%. Total coarse cereals plantings are down 37.56% at 14.14 lha.
