Railways to meet the revenue targets set for 2013-14
The revenue of Indian Railway (IR) increased 7.7%, on yoy basis, to Rs 11558.61 crore in February 2014. The goods revenue, accounting for 69% of the total revenue, increased 9.1% to Rs 7954.01 crore, while the passenger revenue rose 2.2% to Rs 3029.7 crore in February 2014 over February 2013. However, the revenue from other sources surged 20.4% to Rs 574.9 crore in February 2014. Among the other sources of revenue, the revenue from other coaching increased 16.5% to Rs 298.2 crore, while the sundry revenue improved 25% to Rs 276.7 crore in February 2014.Passenger traffic declines
The total approximate number of passengers booked declined 0.8% to 647.31 million in February 2014, in addition to 3.4% decline recorded in February 2013. The passenger traffic has declined 1% to 7710.11 million in April-February FY2014, against 2.7% increase in April-February FY2013.
On track to achieve revised revenue estimates
Railways in its Interim Budget 2014-15, has revised the freight earnings target to Rs 94000 crore for 2013-14 from Rs 93554 crore earlier, while scaled down passenger earnings target to Rs 37500 crore from Rs 42210 crore.
Railway passenger revenue has touched 90% of the target, while freight revenue has increased to 91% of 2013-14 targets in the eleven months ended February 2014. Thus, the passengers, freight and overall revenue targets of Railways for 2013-14 would be met in March 2014.
