Freight traffic revenue dips 6.0% in September 2019
The Indian Railway (IR) has recorded decline in its overall revenues for second straight month and at 38-months high pace of 4.2% to Rs 13169.20 crore in September 2019 over September 2018. The IR revenues had moved up 10.5% to Rs 13740.55 crore in September 2018.The passenger earnings rose marginally by 0.4% to Rs 4182.35 crore in September 2019, against 12.9% growth recorded in September 2018. However, the earnings from freight traffic, accounting for 63.8% of the total revenue, dipped 6.0% to Rs 8403.25 crore in September 2019. The other coaching revenue rose 1.4% to Rs 360.34 crore, but the revenue from sundry activities declined 19.9% to Rs 223.26 crore in September 2019.
In April-September FY2020, the revenue earnings of IR rose mere 1.6% to Rs 88083.83 crore, showing moderation from 7.0% growth recorded in April-September FY2019. Further, the IR revenues have been sharply below the budget target of Rs 98699.04 crore for the above mentioned period.
The goods revenue moved up 0.7% to Rs 57426.83 crore, while the passenger revenue increased 4.4% to Rs 26622.83 crore. The other coaching revenue increased 3.6% to Rs 2377.24 crore, while the sundry earnings dipped 12.0% to Rs 1656.93 crore in April-September FY2020.
