Fourteen realty shares rose by 0.79% to 9.16% at 15:15 IST on BSE on bargain hunting after a recent sell off.
Housing Development and Infrastructure (HDIL) (up 9.16%), Peninsula Land (up 6.52%), D B Realty (up 5.34%), Anant Raj (up 5.33%), Unitech (up 3.92%), Indiabulls Real Estate (up 3.26%), Oberoi Realty (up 2.86%), Parsvnath Developers (up 2.11%), DLF (up 1.64%), Godrej Properties (up 1.32%), Prestige Estates (up 1.03%), Phoenix Mills (up 0.86%), Sobha (up 0.86%) and Sunteck Realty (up 0.79%), edged higher.
The S&P BSE Realty index was up 2.62% at 1,513.05. It outperformed the Sensex, which was up 1.61% at 27,140.28.
The S&P BSE Realty index fell 13.97% in the preceding eight trading sessions to 1,474.41 on Wednesday, 17 December 2014, from a recent high of 1,713.76 on 5 December 2014.
The S&P BSE Realty index had underperformed the market over the past one month till 17 December 2014, falling 11.97% compared with 5.21% fall in the Sensex. The index had also underperformed the market in past one quarter, sliding 13.74% as against Sensex's 0.30% rise.
