Shares of four auto companies rose by 0.55% to 2.58% at 9:30 IST on BSE after petrol price was reduced by Rs 3.05 per litre.
Car maker Maruti Suzuki India was up 1.48%.
Among two-wheeler makers, TVS Motor Company (up 2.58%), Hero MotoCorp (up 0.69%) and Bajaj Auto (up 0.55%), edged higher.
The BSE Auto index was up 0.19% at 11,017.83. It outperformed the Sensex, which was up 0.01% at 19,381.32.
Public sector oil marketing companies (PSU OMCs) reduced petrol price by Rs 3.05 per litre, the first reduction in rates in over five months, while diesel prices were raised by 50 paise a litre. This price change by oil companies are excluding local sales tax or VAT and effective from Tuesday, 1 October 2013.
