Key benchmark indices were trading higher in early trade, tracking positive leads from Asian markets and overnight rally on the Wall Street. At 9:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 121.29 points or 0.38% at 32,003.45. The Nifty 50 index was up 29.85 points or 0.30% at 10,035.90. The Sensex was trading above the psychologically important 32,000 mark. The Nifty was trading above the psychologically important 10,000 mark.
Among secondary barometers,the BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.47%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.64%. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
The broad market depicted strength. There were more than three gainers against every loser on BSE. 950 shares rose and 264 shares fell. A total of 39 shares were unchanged.
Overseas, Asian stocks extended yesterday's gains, mirroring strength in the US equities overnight as concerns faded over the potential damage of Hurricane Irma and as Korean Peninsula tensions took a backseat.
US stocks closed sharply higher on Monday, as Hurricane Irma hit Florida with less force than expected and North Korea failed to conduct another nuclear missile test over the weekend, helping to lure investors into buying assets perceived as risky like equities. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed about 259.58 points, or 1.2%, higher at 22,057.37, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.1% at 2,488.11, marking a fresh record for the broad-market gauge. The Nasdaq Composite Index rallied 1.1% at 6,432.26, and ended within range of its all-time closing high.
Back home, Bharti Airtel was up 0.20%. The company announced the launch of its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in Mumbai. Airtel VoLTE, which works over 4G, will offer customers HD quality voice calls along with faster call set up time. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 11 September 2017.

The company, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Ashkit Properties, has acquired a prime commercial land admeasuring 13,519 square meters on National Highway 8 (Plot No 20, situated in Sector 18, Urban Estate, Gurugram). The said land is situated at a developed prime commercial location, where many leading multi-nationals are operating in nearby vicinity, and will be developed as a commercial complex with an expected leasable area of around 5 lakhs square feet. The construction of 5 lakhs square feet of new office buildings is expected to finish by March, 2019. This addition of new office space will further enhance the annuity revenue to Rs 1421 crores in FY 2020-21 from the rental properties portfolio of Indiabulls Real Estate.
ICICI Bank was up 0.09%. The bank said that the committee of executive directors constituted by the board of the bank is scheduled to have a meeting on 12 September 2017 to consider fund raising by way of issuance of Basel III compliant unsecured subordinated perpetual additional Tier 1 bonds in single/multiple tranches on private placement basis. NTPC was up 0.18%. The company said that 40 megawatts (MW) out of 50 MW of Rojmal Wind Energy Project of NTPC in Gujarat has been commissioned. With this, the total installed capacity of NTPC on standalone basis has become 44482 MW and that of NTPC group has become 51698 MW. Further, the company said that Unit 2 of 250 MW of Nabinagar Thermal Power Project (4 X 250 MW) of Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company (BRBCL), a subsidiary of NTPC is declared on commercial operation on 10 September 2017. With this, the commercial capacity of BRBCL and NTPC group has become 500 MW and 48788 MW respectively.
Andhra Bank was up 0.88%. The bank said that the interest rates on savings bank deposits of the bank have been revised with effect from 15 September 2017. Deposits upto Rs 50 lakh will have interest of 3.5% per annum and above Rs 50 lakh will be 4% per annum. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 11 September 2017.
