The suggested commission should be on lines of the Planning Commission and the Election Commission of India and be empowered to also plan, evolve and execute the flagship social welfare schemes of the union government for a minimum period of 5 years.
In a press statement issued, Executive Director PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Saurabh Sanyal said that it was extremely critical that the new government resurrect the issue of population control now to make India a better place to live in for its future generation.
With the creation of the suggested population commission, population control measures would be in place to enable India equip its future generations access good education, health care, sanitation and jobs to consistently ride on a growth trajectory that has no place for poverty and deprivation and social and financial inequity.
India in vain made attempts to check and control its growing population way back in 1975 and since coercive ways and methodology were adopted to implement the then population control drive, it failed miserably.
Four decades have gone by since then and India hardly revived the talk of checking its rising population, which has reached 1.25 billion as per 1911 consensus and in the absence of non- hostile population policy measures, India's might substantially add on to its rising population to a level in which it could turn into to a serious menace.
Thus, it is suggested that the new government consider it on a priority basis and get all its flagship social schemes executed through it, said Mr Sanyal.
