The S&P BSE Small-Cap index fell 1.27% and the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 1.89% at 15:23 IST, underperforming the Sensex.
Both these indices underperformed the barometer index, S&P BSE Sensex, which fell 331.37 points or 1.22% to 26,857.01. Increase in global bond yields and forecast of deficient rains this year from the India Meteorological Department hit sentiment adversely on the domestic bourses. The market sentiment was also hit adversely after a survey showed contraction in India's services sector in May 2015.
The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was quite weak, with more than two losers against every gainer on BSE. 2,217 shares fell and 678 shares rose. A total of 92 shares were unchanged.
Top losers in the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index were Unitech (down 35.27%), Jaiprakash Associates (down 20.06%), Adani Power (down 9.93%), Reliance Infrastructure (down 7.16%), Bharat Electronics (down 6.25%), Reliance Capital (down 5.13%), National Aluminium Company (down 5.09%), Neyveli lignite Corporation (down 4.49%), Oberoi Realty (down 4.38%) and GMR Infrastructure (down 4.33%).
Top losers in the S&P BSE Small-Cap index were Orbit Corporation (down 19.93%), Alps Motor Finance (down 19.64%), IVRCL Infrastructure (down 16.79%), GTL (down 13.9%), HCC (down 12%), Stampede Capital (down 11.24%), Supreme Infrastructure India (down 11.01%), OnMobile Global (down 10.21%), Unity Infraprojects (down 9.97%) and Geomtric (down 9.82%).
