State governments plan market borrowings of Rs 1.71 lakh crore for Q3 of 2019-20

5 states account for 57% of the total proposed market borrowings for Q3 of 2019-20

The Reserve Bank of India, in consultation with the State Governments, has announced likely quantum of total market borrowings by the State Governments for the quarter October - December 2019 at Rs 170663.76 crore.

The weekly schedule of auctions to be held during the quarter along with the name of States who have confirmed participation and tentative amounts indicated by them is as under:

The actual amount of borrowings and the details of the states participating would be intimated by way of press releases two/ three days prior to the actual auction day and would depend on the requirement of the State Governments, approval from the Government of India.

 

Among 28 states and union territories, the state of Karnataka plans borrowings of Rs 25600 crore, followed by West Bengal Rs 22900 crore, Uttar Pradesh Rs 22000 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 16000 crore and Haryana Rs 10429 crore. These top 5 states account for 57% of the total proposed market borrowings for Q3 of 2019-20.

The state of Gujarat has planned borrowings of Rs 9000 crore, followed by Telangana Rs 9000 crore, Andhra Pradesh Rs 8889 crore, Maharashtra Rs 7000 crore, Punjab Rs 6735 crore, Assam Rs 6126 crore, Rajasthan Rs 5239 crore, Chhattisgarh Rs 5000 crore, Madhya Pradesh Rs 4000 crore, Odisha Rs 3500 crore, Bihar Rs 3042 crore, Kerala Rs 1400 crore, Tripura Rs 1230 crore.

The states proposing borrowings below Rs 1000 crore includes Puducherry Rs 550 crore, Goa Rs 500 crore, Uttarakhand Rs 500 crore, Himachal Pradesh Rs 400 crore, Nagaland Rs 400 crore, Meghalaya Rs 345 crore, Jammu & Kashmir Rs 334 crore, Manipur Rs 195 crore, Mizoram Rs 192 crore, Sikkim Rs 158 crore etc.
