Five steel stocks rose by 1.72% to 7.57% at 14:06 IST on BSE on expectations that China will take steps to accelerate growth.
Jindal Steel & Power (up 7.57%), Tata Steel (up 4.17%), JSW Steel (up 3.90%), Steel Authority of India (up 2.07%) and Bhushan Steel (up 1.72%), edged higher.
The S&P BSE Metal index was up 1.99% at 6,961.16. It outperformed the S&P BSE Sensex, which was up 1.87% at 26,711.33.
China is the world's largest consumer of steel, copper and aluminum.
