Sterlite Industries (India) leads gainers in 'A' group

Copper maker Sterlite Industries (India) rose 5.37% to Rs 112.80. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group.

Metal shares were in demand as copper prices in London and Shanghai hit their highest in almost seven weeks on Wednesday, 5 December 2012. Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange rose to $8,074.75 a tonne, its highest since 19 October 2012. The most-traded March copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange gained more than 1% to a near seven-week high of 57,970 yuan ($9,300) earlier in the day, and closed at 57,760 yuan. Copper, used largely in power and construction, is considered a gauge of economic activity.

 

State-run Allahabad Bank rose 4.94% to Rs 155.20. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Gujarat Fluorochemicals , which makes refrigerant gases, rose 4.83% to Rs 348.65. The stock was third biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Iron ore exporter Sesa Goa rose 4.65% to Rs 189.10. The stock was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Auto component maker Motherson Sumi Systems rose 4.51% to Rs 179.60. The stock was fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
