Tata Motors recovers in volatile trade

Tata Motors slipped 0.17% to Rs 388.25 at 12:11 IST on BSE after the company said that Tata Motors group global wholesales, including Jaguar Land Rover, rose 5% to 81,333 units in April 2016 over April 2015.

The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 10 May 2016.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 20.36 points, or 0.08%, to 25,752.17

On BSE, so far 4.41 lakh shares were traded in the counter, compared with an average volume of 7.55 lakh shares in the past one quarter. The stock was volatile. The stock rose as much as 0.77% at the day's high of Rs 391.90 so far during the day. The stock fell as much as 3.3% at the day's low of Rs 376.05 so far during the day. The stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 530.95 on 11 May 2015. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 266 on 11 February 2016. The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 10 May 2016, rising 4.49% compared with 4.45% rise in the Sensex. The scrip had also outperformed the market in past one quarter, gaining 33.25% as against Sensex's 8.48% rise.

 

The large-cap company has an equity capital of Rs 577.44 crore. Face value per share is Rs 2.

Global wholesales of all Tata Motors' commercial vehicles and Tata Daewoo range rose 11% to 29,584 units in April 2016 over April 2015. Global wholesales of all passenger vehicles rose 1% to 51,749 units in April 2016 over April 2015. Global wholesales for Jaguar Land Rover stood at 40,933 units in April 2016 (including CJLR wholesales of 4,568 units). CJLR is a joint venture between JLR and Chery Automobiles and is an unconsolidated subsidiary for Jaguar Land Rover. Jaguar wholesales stood at 9,188 units while Land Rover wholesales stood at 31,745 units in April 2016.

On consolidated basis, Tata Motors' net profit fell 2% to Rs 3507.54 crore on 3.7% growth in net sales to Rs 71686.12 crore in Q3 December 2015 over Q3 December 2014.

Tata Motors is a market leader in commercial vehicles in India. The company's British unit Jaguar Land Rover sells premium luxury cars.
