United Breweries (up 2.20%), GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare (up 2.07%) and Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (up 0.19%), edged higher.
The BSE Sensex was up 318.27 points, or 1.63% at 19,835.42.
The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) included Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare and United Breweries in the futures and options (F&O) segment from today, 3 October 2013.
Typically, stocks that enter the F&O segment gain ground due to absence of circuit filters and increase in institutional participation due to improved liquidity.
