Nifty June 2016 futures trade at slight premium to spot price

The June 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 8,188, a small premium of 9.50 points compared with the Nifty's closing of 8,178.50 in the cash market. The Nifty July 2016 futures traded at 8,210, a premium of 31.50 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment totaled Rs 1.62 lakh crore, which was lower than turnover of Rs 2.21 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty rose 21.85 points or 0.27% to settle at 8,178.50, its highest closing level since 27 October 2015.

 

State Bank of India (SBI), Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Hindalco Industries and Tata Steel were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in the June 2016 series. SBI June 2016 futures traded at 196.70, at a discount compared with the stock's spot closing of 197.80. Tata Motors June 2016 futures traded at 423.55, at a premium compared with spot closing of 423. M&M June 2016 futures traded at 1,338.25, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1,329.60.

Hindalco Industries June 2016 futures traded at 103.45, at a premium compared with spot closing of 102.80. Tata Steel June 2016 futures traded at 324.45, at a premium compared with spot closing of 321.90.

The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016. The July 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 July 2016.
