Around 1,200 Spanish security officers, including riot police, canine units and emergency services, are to be deployed at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium here for the UEFA Europa League match between Atletico Madrid and Sporting de Lisbon, according to a statement from a government office in Madrid on Wednesday.
The first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals, which has been declared a high-risk game, is to take place Thursday evening, with around 53,000 fans expected to attend, reports Efe.
Police and the authorities advised fans to arrive at the stadium early, with enough time to go through security checks before the match begins, and also recommend the use of public transport to reach the stadium.
