An illegal liquor factory was busted in Bihar's Bhagalpur district amd nearly 10,000 pouches of local-made liquor seized, an official said Thursday.

The joint team of excise department and police also seized 600 litres spirit and an automatic punching machine from the factory located at the farmhouse of ruling Janata Dal-United legislator Ajay Mandal. He however denied any involvement, saying the property belonged to his nephew.

"It is the biggest ever seizure of country liquor in the state by the excise department. We were stunned during the raid to find such a big factory making illegal liquor," said excise department official Om Prakash Mandal.

Ajay Mandal said the the land on which the factory was located belonged to his father Ramdas Mandal, "who gave it to my late elder brother Abhay Kumar Mandal".

"Now land is in possession of his son Ranjit. I have nothing to do with it," he said.

The excise official said that his department will file a case in this connection.
