A total of 10 candidates, the highest ever from Jammu and Kashmir, have made it to the final selection list of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination 2013.
Majority of those who made it to the final UPSC list from the state belong to Jammu region. The UPSC Thursday announced the result for civil services examination 2013, the test for which was conducted in December 2013 followed by interview during April-June 2014.
Abid Hussain, ranked 27 in the list, is likely to get into the IAS while rest of the nine candidates were ranked between 189 and 1,003.
Majority of the selected candidates are from Gujjar community, scheduled tribe belonging to the border areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts of the state.
Eight of the ten selected candidates are Muslims while two candidates, Abhishek Mahajan and Vikrant Bhushan are Hindus.
For the past few years, candidates from Jammu and Kashmir have been making to the UPSC final list because of their hard work.
Shah Faesal, a candidate belonging to the border district of Kupwara in the Valley, topped the UPSC 2009 select list in the country.
