120 rice bags for export to Mauritius replaced with sand, driver arrested

A truck driver was arrested for replacing 120 rice bags headed for Mauritius with sand bags at the container depot in Loni, Ghaziabad, police said on Thursday.

The rice bags were sold in the open market.

The exporter Nitin, a resident of Delhi, lodged a complaint with the Loni Police after receiving a complaint from the importer in Mauritius.

The police said the consignment of 120 bags of rice at the destination was found to be sand.

On the exporter's complaint, the Loni Police registered a complaint under Section 420 and 406 of the IPC.

It was found during investigation that the truck driver, who transported the rice bags to the container depot in Loni, had replaced them with sand bags.

 

The truck driver, Feroze, was arrested by the police after he confessed to the crime.

"His accomplice has also been arrested who has revealed his identity as Niyaz, a resident of Loni," said O.P. Chaudhary, Inspector of Loni Police Station.

He added that efforts are on to recover the rice bags.
