149 killed in Egypt

At least 149 people were killed and hundreds injured across Egypt Wednesday in police operation at two major squares against supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, a health official told Xinhua.

"Thirtysix people were killed and 321 injured in Cairo's Rabaa al- Adawiya Square in Nasr City, and 16 were killed and 68 injured in Nahda Square in Giza during the police's clear-up," Health Ministry spokesperson Mohamed Fatah-Allah told Xinhua.

Elsewhere, 35 people were killed in Fayoum, 45 in Minya, and four in Helwan. In other governorates, such as Suez, Beheira, Sohag, Daqahliya and Asyut, there were also reported death and injury cases, the spokesperson said.
