At least 15 fishermen were rescued by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) teams on Sunday after their boat sank near the archipelago of Langkawi, in Malaysia.

The 15 sport fishermen were found and rescued, Efe news agency cited an MMEA statement as saying.

Two MMEA vessels together with two Marine Police Force boats and several fishing boats in the area cooperated in the search for the boat-wreck survivors, who managed to send a distress signal before their craft sank about 10 nautical miles (18.5 km) south of Payar island in strong winds and large waves.

Payar, an island belonging to the archipelago of Langkawi, offers one of the best marine parks on the west coast of Malaysia, according to travel agencies.
