At least 15 people, including women, were killed and 21 injured on Saturday in a road accident in Pakistan's eastern district of Kasur, local media reported.

The accident took place when a passenger bus plunged into a canal in Changa Manga area of Kasur, Punjab province.

The death toll might rise as at least five of the injured are in critical condition, hospital sources said.

Ten men, four women and a child are among the deceased.

It was not known how many people were on board, but authorities have stopped the water inflow into the canal to ensure that all the bodies and injured would be taken out.

Police said initial investigations revealed that speeding and tyre burst were the main causes of the accident.
