Police arrested 16 activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami in Dhaka for their suspected involvement in the violence unleashed during the non-stop blockade that the BNP-led alliance enforced early January.
Over 50 people have been killed and more than 100 injured, mostly in arson attacks, during the ongoing transport blockade and several rounds of shutdown since Jan 5, bdnews24.com reported.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said they were arrested from different parts of the city in the last 24 hours until Friday morning.
Law enforcement agencies are conducing raids across the country everyday to nab those involved in the violence.
On Wednesday night, law enforcers picked up 76 people in the capital on similar charges.
