17 people injured in Delhi protest

At least 17 people, including 10 policemen, were injured Monday afternoon when around 1,500 protesters started pelting stones after being stopped as they were heading towards parliament, said police.

"The people were protesting for the clearance of a pending bill for reservation in government services. Around 3 p.m. the protesters started moving towards parliament from Jantar Mantar," Deputy Commissioner of Police S.B.S. Tyagi told IANS.

According to Tyagi, when police force tried to stop their movement towards parliament, the protesters started pelting stones.

"After hours of tension, the situation was brought under control. Around 17 people, including 10 policemen, were injured in the incident," said Tyagi.

 

All the injured are being treated at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
