2.83 goals scored per game in World Cup group stages

Current edition of the World Cup is one of the best, says FIFA secretary

Rio de Janeiro, June 29 (IANS/EFE) FIFA has announced its satisfaction about the performances delivered in the World Cup group stages.

An average of 2.83 goals were scored per game in the 48 first round matches while fan turnout reached an average of 98 percent with 2,454,377 spectators who went to see the matches, reports EFE.

FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said the current edition of the World Cup is one of the best, stressing on the increased passion the tournament has caused, reflected by TV viewership. The World Cup has also become the centre of attention on social networking sites.
