Two men were shot and wounded by their employer's relative, a friend of the victims said on Friday. However, police said that they were wounded in a shootout.

The two worked at a scrap warehouse in south Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said "the two opened fire at each other during a scuffle over a money-related issue" post midnight on Thursday.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the two -- Rameshwar, 19, and Sunil, 21 -- were admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

"Rameshwar has been shifted to ICU (intensive care unit). Doctors said his condition is serious and his chances of survival are bleak," their friend Raju Chaudhary told IANS.

Chaudhary complained that the police were not lodging a First Information Report (FIR) even after recording Sunil's statement.

"We have been at the police station since morning but they haven't lodged an FIR."

He said a relative of the owner of the warehouse opened fire at the two when they were asleep.

"First, he shot Rameshwar in the head and later targeted Sunil," Chaudhary said. "There wasn't any trouble between the employer and the victims."
