Twenty people were killed on Saturday when a gas cylinder burst at a tea stall in Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh. Another explosion took place at a nearby building, police said.

The first blast was followed by another explosion in a two-storey building, due to which the structure collapsed.

"An explosion took place in a tea stall on Saturday morning. After that, another explosion took place in a two-storey building in which 20 people died," Jhabua ASP Sima Alva told IANS, adding: "Many people were injured in the incident."

According to police, more than 50 people were injured in the blast and have been admitted to hospital.

Witnesses said that such was the blast's impact that several people died on the spot.

It is being said that there were explosives in the building following which the blast happened. However, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur said that the blast took place due to cylinder explosion.

Many are believed to be trapped in the debris. Relief and rescue works are underway.
