At least 21 people were killed Wednesday in two road accidents in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.
In the first accident on the National Highway No.2 in Bareilly, a speeding truck rammed into a tempo, killing eight people, including a five-year-old child and an infant, police said.
In the second accident in Pilakhua area of Hapur district, a truck and a bus collided, killing 13 people.
Drivers of both vehicles survived the crash and are since on the run.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed his condolences and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs.5 lakh each to the kin of the dead and Rs.50,000 to those injured.
The chief minister also asked the local administrations to expedite rescue and relief operations and ensure proper medical treatment to the injured.
