At least 22 inmates of a destitutes hostel in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura town fled after two armed youth entered the hostel and beat up the security guard.
However, police managed to get 19 women back. Two inmates, Pooja and Shilpa, are still untraceable along with a two-year-old girl.
Sources said they escaped with their lovers.
The warden of the Nari Niketan, Meena Kumari, said: "They (youth) hit the guard and injured him. They also fired two shots to scare everyone."
