22 killed in China coal mine accident

At least 22 people were killed Saturday following a gas explosion in a colliery in southwest China's Sichuan province, officials said.

The accident occurred at the Taozigou coal mine in Luxian county when at least 108 miners were working underground, Xinhua reported. Officials said 71 miners managed to escape.

At least nine miners were still trapped in the colliery.
