Rome, July 8 (IANS/AKI) At least 26 people were arrested and dozens more searched Monday on suspicion that they were members of a gang that allegedly ran a drugs racket on beaches near the Italian capital.

Police said they uncovered 20 kg of drugs hidden in plastic bags under sand dunes at Capocotta beach, which is popular with nudists.

The drugs included hashish, marijuana, cocaine and heroin.

A pistol with the serial number erased and unspecified sums of cash were also found along with the drugs, police said.

The gang has around 500 "clients", police said.
