28 from Madhya Pradesh among train victims

A total of 28 persons of the 146 killed in the train accident near Kanpur were from Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Monday.

According to officials, 27 of the deceased have been identified and the bodies sent to their homes.

"One killed has not been identified yet," District Magistrate of Datiya, Madan Kumar told IANS.

Public Relations Minister and Parliamentarian Narottam Mishra visited the injured on Monday. Around 100 officers and workers in the state had collaborated to provide the necessary help at the accident site and various hospitals.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan examined the relief work at the accident site on Sunday. At least 20 teams of doctors, revenue and police personnel were present in Kanpur to help in the relief work.

 

The chief of Chhatarpur district Panchayat Chandramohan Thakur has been sent to Hailat hospital to take care of the 26 persons admitted from Madhya Pradesh.

The tragedy occurred when 14 coaches of the train went off the rails near Pukhrayan station, about 60 km from Kanpur city.
