3 die in Odisha firing

As least three people, including a ward member, were killed and two minors injured on Sunday when security personnel allegedly opened fire at them during an operation in Odisha mistaking them to be Maoist rebels.

The incident took place at Karlapat forest in Kalahandi district. The injured were admitted to a district hospital, said sources. However, police were yet to comment on the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Jai Majhi, Sukru Majhi and Jay Shanka Naik, a ward member, of Panchgulgaon area.

The sources said the security personnel and members of the district voluntary force allegedly opened fire on the villagers after noticing their movement in the forest.
