At least 30 militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) were killed in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, a local official said on Friday.
The government launched operations against IS fighters in parts of Achin district Thursday night and killed at least 30 insurgents so far, Xinhua quoted district governor Hajji Mohammad Ghalib as saying.
However, he did not say if there were casualties among security personnel.
IS has been challenging the security forces in parts of Nangarhar province over the past couple of months.
