The huge haul lay undiscovered off the coast at Southend, Essex, since the war, the Telegraph reported.
They were found by a 30-year-old fisherman, Peter Tutt, on New Year's Eve.
"The high tides and strong winds had uncovered them all so I called the coastguard but by the time they arrived the tide was in so they came back and detonated the lot," Tutt told the daily.
This was not the first time he found a haul of old wartime bombs.
"The most I have found were 38 and that was back in 2008 but it is impossible to tell whether they have all been dropped from planes or over the side from ships," he said.
