At least 36 people were killed and 80 seriously injured in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Nepal's Taplejung district, a media report said on Thursday.

According to police, of the 36 victims, only five been identified so far, Kantipur news reported.

Liwang, Thokling, Thinglabu and Lingket villages have been severely-hit by the landslide. The number of casualties may rise, district authorities said.

Continuous rain and flash floods since Wednesday have hampered rescue efforts, police said.
