45 killed in army-militant clashes in Afghanistan

At least 45 people were killed in Afghanistan's Saripul province in clashes between militants and security forces, reports said.

The clash erupted Sunday night in Darai Alafsafid area, a suburb of Saripul city, provincial governor Abdul Jabbar Haqbin said Monday, reported Xinhua.

So far 45 people, including 22 security personnel and 23 Taliban rebels have been killed, he said.

Haqbin also admitted that eight more security personnel had been injured during the clash which is still continuing.

Taliban militants fighting the government to regain power have speeded up activities over the past couple of months as the NATO-led forces are preparing to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of the year.
