As much as 5.2kg gold valued at Rs.1.37 crore was seized from the baggage of an Indian passenger at the Bengaluru international airport on Monday, a customs official said.
"We have arrested accused Farooq Rahman after gold biscuits were found concealed in a compressor of an air-conditioner he brought from Kuala Lumpur as part of his baggage in a Malaysian airline flight," Customs Additional Commissioner D.A. Anil told IANS.
Though the aircraft landed around Sunday midnight, the gold was only discovered in the AC unit when it was opened on Monday day for inspection.
"We have produced the accused in a local court for custody and interrogation after registering a case against him under the anti-smuggling act," Anil said.
Rahman, 34, hails from Mysuru, about 150km from here.
