In a shocking incident, a five-year-old boy's penis was chopped off for urinating in the field of a villager in Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday.

The ghastly incident took place in Korali village of Pratapgarh late Tuesday. Police said Ritesh, son of a brick kiln labourer Sheshram, wandered into a field and was caught urinating.

The field owner not only thrashed him but also chopped off his penis. The profusely bleeding boy somehow reached home and raised an alarm.

He has since been rushed to Allahabad where he is undergoing medical treatment.

The boy's father has lodged a complaint with the police against Durgesh Maurya, owner of the field. Maurya's son also has been made an accused in the complaint as the child told the family that he too had a hand in the crime.

Police said the assailants were on the run and efforts were on to nab them.

Uttar Pradesh has seen a sharp spurt in crimes against women and children in recent days but an unfazed government of Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav claims all is fine in the state and that the media is unnecessarily raking up small crimes in the state and ignoring bigger crimes in other states.
