The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group has kidnapped 50 people from a central Syria village it attacked late last month, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Friday.

The IS also killed 46 other civilians, including children, and beheaded and set afire six local defence forces personnel in Hama province's Mabujeh village during the attack on March 30, the SOHR said.

The kidnapped people, a mix between Sunni Muslims and Ismaili minority -- an offshoot of Shia Islam, were taken to the IS-controlled areas in the eastern countryside of Hama, Xinhua news agency reported citing SOHR.

The minority groups in Syria have felt threatened by the emergence of the IS, which targets and kills people of the Shia minority.
